As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen educational ties between China and Mexico, the Chinese government has granted 18 full scholarships to young Mexicans to pursue postgraduate studies at Chinese universities during the 2025-2026 academic year. The official award ceremony took place on Monday, August 5, at the Embassy of China in Mexico.
Chinese Ambassador Zhang Run emphasized that this initiative is part of a broader effort to deepen academic and cultural cooperation between the two countries. He highlighted education as one of the pillars of the bilateral relationship and expressed confidence that the recipients will become bridges of mutual understanding. “We hope these students not only gain professional knowledge, but also a deeper understanding of Chinese culture and society,” said the ambassador.
The scholarship recipients come from various regions of Mexico and were selected through a process coordinated by the Mexico-China Alumni Association and the Mexican Secretariat of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with universities and academic institutions.
The scholarships cover tuition, accommodation, health insurance, and a monthly stipend for living expenses. Most of the recipients will pursue master’s or doctoral degrees in fields such as engineering, international trade, environment, traditional Chinese medicine, international relations, and sustainable development. The program is part of China’s growing focus on educational diplomacy, particularly in Latin America. In Mexico, the number of scholarships awarded has increased in recent years as part of a joint commitment to promote academic exchange.
The event also reaffirmed the long-standing link between China and Mexico, who celebrated 50 years of diplomatic relations in 2022.
Several former scholarship recipients shared their experiences studying in China and encouraged the new grantees to make the most of the opportunity. The selected students expressed their appreciation and highlighted the value of studying at prestigious institutions such as Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Zhejiang University, and Peking University.
