According to an official statement from the Colombian government, a delegation from the National Infrastructure Agency of Colombia (ANI), led by Óscar Torres Yarzagaray, director of the institution, is attending the 12th High-Speed Rail Congress, currently taking place in Beijing, China.
This congress is considered the most important event in the railway transport sector, as it brings together technical experts, multilateral organizations, representatives from various countries, and railway companies with the aim of discussing a globally interconnected sustainable mobility through high-speed trains.
During the opening day of the congress, meetings were held to discuss railway infrastructure development, technology, passenger experience, and operational systems, all of which are key to implementing innovative and efficient multimodal mobility.
ANI’s presence at the congress is expected to lead to the formation of new strategic partnerships with international actors who could invest in Colombia and contribute to the technical capacity of the country’s railway sector.
Likewise, the participation of this Colombian institution in the congress held in Beijing will promote the reactivation and development of the national railway system, positioning it as a key sector to boost interconnectivity within the country, and also contribute to the advancement of Colombia’s energy transition.
In this regard, Director Óscar Torres stated that the Colombian government aims to find new partners who can contribute to knowledge transfer within ANI’s internal structuring processes.
He also emphasized that ANI hopes not only to benefit from internal knowledge transfer, but also to attract investors and experienced stakeholders to help strengthen the competitiveness of this sector in Colombia.
It is worth noting that during this official visit, Director Óscar Torres held a bilateral meeting with senior executives from China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd. (CHEC), a company specialized in maritime construction, airports, bridges, industrial plants, railways, and dredging.
In this meeting, CHEC President Zhang Xiao Qian was present, along with the company’s two vice presidents, Liu Jialin and Wu Yu. During the meeting, Director Torres presented Colombia’s most important ongoing infrastructure projects, which are part of a long-term strategic planning framework.
Among the projects mentioned were the structuring of new railway corridors for passenger and cargo transport, an airport in the city of Cali, an interoceanic train, and the El Estanquillo–Popayán road plan.
Regarding these projects, CHEC executives expressed their interest in working jointly with ANI to develop infrastructure projects in Colombia and create comprehensive solutions for the sector.
