Fundación Andrés Bello

On August 28th, Mr. Zhu Jingyang arrived in Bogotá, D.C. as the newly appointed Chinese ambassador to Colombia, marking the return of a high-ranking representative from the Asian country to Colombia after more than five months of interim leadership. The former ambassador, Lan Hu, bid farewell on March 24th in an event at the Chinese embassy in Bogotá and now serves as the Chinese ambassador to Venezuela. Zhu Jingyang, 51 years old and born in Danyang, Jiangsu province, has been active on his social media, particularly on the X platform (formerly known as Twitter), and, according to his CV, holds a master's degree in International Studies.

Zhu Jingyang's diplomatic career has been closely tied to Latin America for nearly three decades. Between 1995 and 2004, he held positions in the General Directorate for Latin America and the Caribbean at China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Subsequently, he served as the second and first secretary at the Chinese Embassy in Peru until 2008. In the following year, he returned to Beijing as the first secretary of the General Directorate for Latin America and the Caribbean.
