Despite its negative reputation, Hongdong benefits from government subsidies that allow it to operate competitively in international markets, raising concerns about its impact on sustainable fishing and the marine ecosystem in the South Atlantic. Allegations include instances of illegal fishing in Argentine waters and the company's potential connection to the Chinese military arms trade.
The report also highlights the legal implications of an agreement with Hongdong, which could violate national and international regulations, affecting Argentina's sovereignty and environment. While fostering agreements that benefit port development is essential, partnering with companies that have illicit backgrounds would be irresponsible and counterproductive.
