Uruguay has successfully concluded a three-protocol agreement with China, as announced by Fernando Mattos, the Minister of Livestock, Agriculture, and Fisheries (MGAP). The agreement encompasses the export of live aquatic animals, sport horses, and lemons, along with an intensified cooperation between both countries. Minister Mattos emphasized the potential of the equine protocol, citing China’s advanced equestrian sports culture in regions like Macao. Uruguay aims to explore breeding methods and financing opportunities in this sector. A biweekly cooperation plan covering agriculture, fishing, and farming was also established.

Minister Mattos further highlighted that the agreement allows for the possibility of adding new protocols in the future. These may include agreements on wild aquatic animals, poultry meat, tripe, tongue, head meats, and other areas related to food safety and grain reserves. The objective is to enhance the shelf life of exported products and reduce post-harvest losses. The diplomatic tour, which included meetings with officials from 10 provinces and autonomous regions, was organized to commemorate the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Uruguay and China.
