The cost of exports from Asia has increased by 50% in Peru in the short term. From China to Callao, Peru's most important port, they have increased up to five times their value compared to before the pandemic: according to the Peruvian Association of Port Operators (Asppor), freight rates have increased from US$2,000 to US$10,000. The Peruvian Maritime Association (Asmarpe) has explained that "if before the pandemic a container on the Shanghai-Callao-Shanghai route took sixty days, today it can take ninety or more". This results in a shortage of containers available for imports, altered costs worldwide, and longer times.
The container crisis is caused by the fact that reactivation in different parts of the world has led to a great demand for containers from manufacturing countries, mainly China, where merchandise has been paralyzed despite the fact that traders have placed orders months in advance.
