An official delegation from the People's Republic of China will visit Peru in September to accelerate the access to the Chinese market for various Peruvian products, which could represent annual exports of up to US$100 million for the Andean country.

During the visit, the delegation will inspect primary processing plants and formalize the agreements reached during the state visit of Peruvian President Dina Boluarte to China in June this year.

This visit, announced by the Peruvian Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, will be headed by Zhao Zenglian, Vice Minister of the General Administration of Customs of China, and will take place from September 21 to 24. The negotiation of the export of products such as frozen fruit, pomegranates and Peruvian pecans to the Chinese market is expected to be discussed.

Peru's Minister of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, Angel Manero, pointed out that, in addition to securing access to these products, Peru is also seeking recognition as a country free of foot-and-mouth disease. This recognition would open the door to beef and pork exports to the Chinese market.

According to Manero, China consumes 70 million tons of meat per year, and in the near future, Peru could export up to one million tons per year, which could translate into sales of more than US$5 billion and a 50% increase in Peruvian agro-exports.

The Peruvian minister emphasized that this visit is a reflection of the good bilateral relations between Peru and China, strengthened after Boluarte's trip last June. During that trip, several sanitary protocols were signed that will facilitate the entry of new Peruvian agricultural products into the Chinese market, which has 1.4 billion consumers.

Earlier in the week, Peru also announced the creation of a Joint Commission with China to develop infrastructure projects in the Andean country with the help of China. In November of this year, the mega-port of Chancay, a huge port project developed by China on Peru's Pacific coast, will also be inaugurated.
