In the course of this year, Peru has managed to repatriate more than 100 cultural goods that were illicitly removed from the country. In a joint effort between Peru's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture, several archaeological objects - belonging to ancient cultures such as the Chimu and Inca - were repatriated from countries including Germany, Spain, the United States, Brazil, Switzerland, Bolivia, the Netherlands, Mexico, Argentina, Portugal, and the United Kingdom. The rescue of 30 pieces that were about to be auctioned through a Dutch web page has been highlighted.
For China, this has served as an opportunity to strengthen its cultural closeness with Peru. China Central Television (CCTV) made a television segment in which it gave special coverage to the repatriation of the aforementioned goods and highlighted the work carried out by the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture. They also explained the strategic coordination between embassies and other entities in the fight against illicit trafficking in cultural property.
