According to an article by the media outlet Portal Frutícola, during the visit to the People's Republic of China by Ángel Manero, Peru's Minister of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, the two nations signed the implementation plan for the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of water resources for the triennium 2025, 2026 and 2027.

This new bilateral agreement between the two countries will focus on family farming and aims to reaffirm the exchange of scientific and technical knowledge on key topics such as irrigation infrastructure, water resource management, natural disaster prevention and technological innovation.

It is known that this new agreement will allow for the implementation of applicable technologies for flood and drought prevention, restoration and protection of river basins, modernization of water conservation infrastructure and the development of dam safety measures.

In the context of this visit to the People's Republic of China, high-ranking officials from the Asian country highlighted Peru's position as a reliable nation for foreign trade, specifically as a supplier of high-quality agricultural products such as avocado and blueberry, the latter being one of the most exported fruits from Peru to China.

For his part, Minister Manero invited Sun Meijun, Minister of the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC), to visit Peru before the end of 2025. This visit could contribute to the development of phytosanitary protocols for the export of organic bananas and Peruvian pomegranates to the Asian nation.

Additionally, both countries agreed to continue developing the technical requirements that would facilitate the entry of Peruvian poultry and beef into the Chinese market, which would benefit Peru's livestock export sectors.

Moreover, Minister Manero held a meeting with Han Jun, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China, where they discussed bilateral cooperation between the two countries and agreed to develop a joint agenda to encourage the exchange of agricultural technology, machinery and scientific and technical training, with the aim of supporting small producers.

Likewise, within the framework of the Beijing Investment and Trade Promotion Forum, Minister Manero presented the various opportunities offered by Peru's agribusiness sector, highlighting the ability of Peruvian producers to supply the Chinese market with high-quality products.

The forum was attended by various investor companies from the People's Republic of China, as well as authorities from the Asian country, with whom Peru's Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation was able to discuss bilateral cooperation.

Last but not least, Minister Manero emphasized that this visit to the People's Republic of China enables the creation of strategic partnerships with various entities, which will contribute to Peru’s progress, specifically in diversifying export destinations and modernizing the country's agribusiness sector, thereby promoting sustainable rural development.
