During a meeting in San Francisco, United States, the President of Peru, Dina Boluarte, and her Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen bilateral trade and investment. Boluarte extended an invitation to Xi to visit Peru during the APEC Leaders' Summit in November 2024.

On this occasion, both leaders highlighted the importance of the Chancay megaport, a joint Peruvian-Chinese project expected to boost free trade and attract new investments. Xi described this infrastructure as an emblematic project for the region and expressed his interest in further strengthening ties between the two countries.

The presidents emphasized that Peru and China are strategic trading partners, reinforcing the need for a fourth strategic dialogue meeting on economic cooperation. Additionally, they underscored the importance of optimizing the existing trade agreement to facilitate the export of Peruvian agricultural products to China, such as bananas, avocados, and blueberries.

Meanwhile, Boluarte also held talks with the President of South Korea, Yoon Suk-Yeol, focusing on infrastructure investment projects and cooperation in technology and defense, reflecting Peru’s interest in diversifying its trade and technology relationships.

Boluarte took advantage of her presence at the APEC forum to invite international business leaders to participate in APEC 2024, which will be held in Peru. She emphasized the importance of promoting the participation of women-led companies in international trade and extended an invitation to business leaders and investors to attend the forum's meetings next year.

The President highlighted that Peru’s economy is characterized by stability and a favorable investment climate, noting Peru’s role as the host of over 160 meetings for APEC 2024.

Finally, Boluarte held a meeting with the President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, where they agreed on the need to advance negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.

These discussions reflect Peru’s interest in consolidating itself as a strategic partner in Asia and promoting an approach of cooperation and economic development within its relationships with various countries on the continent.
