According to a report by Última Hora, the president of the Paraguayan Chamber of Meat, Randy Ross Wiebe, mentioned that in April of this year, there is a possibility of a reduction in meat prices, which in December 2024 were at a high level.

This phenomenon could be a consequence of the People's Republic of China’s decision to eliminate beef imports from Mercosur countries, specifically Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay.

As a result, Brazilian beef, which will no longer be exportable to the Asian country, will seek new markets, with a particular focus on Latin America. Among the main potential destinations is Chile, one of the largest importers of Paraguayan beef.

In this regard, Randy Ross pointed out that the impact will be significant for Paraguayan exports, as Brazil, with its high production levels, could enter the Chilean market, thus affecting Paraguayan livestock farming. It is worth noting that 40% of Paraguayan beef is destined for Chile, while the remaining 60% is exported to various markets, including Taiwan and the United States. Last but not least, according to Última Hora estimates based on local retail prices, premium rib has increased by 18%, flank steak has risen by 22%, and rump cap has seen a price hike of 21%.
