On July 18, the Hong Ting Forum: China-Mexico Civilizations Encounter was held in Mexico City. Co-hosted by Xinhua News Agency and the Institute of History and Literature of the Chinese Communist Party, the event brought together nearly 100 participants from politics, academia, media, and industry.

Fu Hua, president of Xinhua, emphasized the longstanding friendship between both nations and promoted China’s “Global Civilization Initiative,” aimed at fostering mutual cultural understanding.

Chinese Ambassador Chen Daojiang highlighted that both civilizations are ancient treasures whose shared interactions have enriched their cultural identities. He drew parallels between Chinese values of “benevolence and harmony” and the wisdom of the Maya and Aztec civilizations.

From the Mexican side, Diego Prieto of the Ministry of Culture noted that both nations have deep roots in ancient civilizations and that they advocate for peace and dialogue as tools for resolving differences.

Raymundo Vázquez, president of the Mexico-China Friendship Group in the Chamber of Deputies, described the bilateral relationship as an “international cooperation model” and emphasized its strategic importance in addressing global challenges.

Dr. Enrique Dussel Peters, from UNAM’s China-Mexico Studies Center, reminded attendees that China is Mexico’s second-largest trading partner and noted that cooperation now spans education, science, culture, and innovation. He suggested that increasing people-to-people exchanges is the next necessary step.

The forum included the presentation of a report on Chinese cultural subjectivity and its role in modernization, along with recommendations for future collaborations in tourism, art, and technology.
