Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL) is a Chinese technology company that was founded in 2011. It is the world's largest manufacturer of batteries and storage systems for electric vehicles. The company is analyzing sites in Mexico to install a US$5 billion plant to supply the demand it faces.
The factory will produce up to 80 gigawatt-hours of batteries per year and is expected to employ up to 10,000 workers. Today, there is a great demand for electric vehicles as several countries try to reduce their carbon emissions and consumers adopt cleaner cars. This, in turn, is influencing demand for CATL and enabling its expansion into other parts of the world.
