Mexico's Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard, indicated that the country will take a more active stance in favor of the United States in the growing trade tensions with China. Speaking at a business forum, Ebrard emphasized that Mexico has a clear strategy to mobilize its interests towards strengthening the North American region.

One of the main opportunities Mexico aims to capitalize on is the phenomenon of nearshoring, where Asian companies would relocate their plants to Mexico to reduce costs and benefit from geographical proximity to the U.S. market.

Ebrard also highlighted the importance of increasing the national content of Mexico's manufacturing exports, which currently stands at less than 20%. The Mexican government plans to collaborate with businesses to attract suppliers and producers to the country in an effort to reduce imports.

This shift aligns with Mexico surpassing China as the top exporter of manufactured goods to the United States, overtaking the oil sector as the main driver of bilateral trade.
