The Chinese company Sinohydro is currently under investigation for alleged corruption in Ecuador, specifically related to the Coca Codo Sinclair project. It has been discovered that the company made bribe payments totaling US$76 million, which were subsequently deposited in accounts in Panama and distributed among various individuals, Ecuadorian companies, and foreign companies in tax havens. This investigation has also shed light on suspicious contracts in Peru, particularly in the regions of Piura and Ayacucho, where Sinohydro operates.

The ongoing investigation has revealed a complex network of illicit activities involving the payment of bribes over an eight-year period. During the indictment hearing, it was disclosed that 37 individuals, including former president Lenín Moreno and his family, are being prosecuted for their involvement in bribery. This case has drawn attention to the alleged role of Sinohydro, a Chinese company, in acts of corruption both in Ecuador and Peru.
