China announced the new “Disaster Relief Fund for Caribbean countries”

An e-summit was held on Friday, April 29, 2022, where China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi announced the establishment of a "Disaster Relief Fund for Caribbean countries". Diplomatic representatives from the following nine nations attended the online meeting: Dominica, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, and Barbados.

Although no further details were provided at the meeting, according to the information available, the fund will be used to cover the needs of the nine Caribbean countries mentioned above. Meanwhile, the Chinese Foreign Affairs Ministry stated the following: "China will continue to provide economic and technical assistance to the Caribbean countries without any political commitment" (South China Morning Post, 2022).
