China has established itself as the primary export destination for the Andean Community (CAN), which includes Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. In 2023, CAN exports to China accounted for 20.4% of the bloc's total shipments, reaching $31.9 billion, with an average annual growth rate of 10.3% over the past decade.

During a meeting in Lima on cooperation within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative between Peru and China, CAN Secretary General Gonzalo Gutiérrez Reinel highlighted the strategic importance of China and the Pacific for the Andean bloc. He noted that this relationship enables the development of key sectors like technology, renewable energy, and biotechnology, fostering collaborations and investments in emerging sectors.

Gutiérrez Reinel also emphasized the need to promote technology transfer for comprehensive development in Andean economies and stressed the complementarity between the Andean and Chinese markets, where the bloc serves as both a resource supplier and an industrial goods consumer. Additionally, he highlighted the opportunities to build sustainable partnerships and CAN's potential as a strategic partner for responsible investment and access to multiple global markets.
