Ecuadorian President Guillermo Lasso made an official visit to the People's Republic of China in February of this year. The visit will coincide with the winter games in Beijing, and will also serve as an opportunity to discuss political and economic issues.

According to the official statement of the Ecuadorian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Juan Carlos Holguín, the main topic to be discussed in the meeting will be the reorganization of the 5 billion dollars that Ecuador still owes to the Asian country. The second point will be the reopening of funding. The Ecuadorian president will ask President Xi Jinping for new loans to help them move forward and provide a solution regarding the Coca Codo Sinclair hydroelectric power plant. The ultimate goal of this meeting is for Chinese cooperation to help Ecuador overcome its crises and to combat corruption, which has been ongoing in the Latin American country for years.
