Cuba and China hold bilateral meeting in pursuit of sports cooperation

According to an article published by ACN, on Monday, June 2, 2025, the President of Cuba and First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, Miguel Díaz-Canel, met with Gao Zhidan, President of the Chinese Olympic Committee, Director of the General Administration of Sport and member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.

The meeting took place at the Palace of the Revolution in Havana and was described by the Cuban leader as highly significant, as it enabled both parties to reach agreements and consensus regarding cooperation in the sports sector.

Díaz-Canel emphasized the importance of developing sports exchange between the two countries and expressed his expectation that the agreements reached would contribute to advancing that goal.

As a result of the meeting between Díaz-Canel and Zhidan, the promotion of bilateral sports events as well as the exchange of methodologies and joint training sessions is expected.

For his part, Gao Zhidan, President of the Chinese Olympic Committee, Director of the General Administration of Sport and member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, thanked Cuba for its warm welcome and noted that the meeting reflects the strength of the relationship between the two nations.

He also stressed that these new sports agreements, along with the bilateral ties between the governments and communist parties of both countries, contribute to the development of diplomatic relations that date back 65 years.
