The largest Chinese companies operating in Colombia have expressed their keen interest in increasing their investments in the country. During a meeting in Bogota with representatives from various ministries and government entities, discussions revolved around the potential for Chinese companies to contribute to the peace-building efforts in areas affected by the armed conflict in Colombia. According to José Leonidas Tobón, an advisor to the Unit for the Implementation of the Final Peace Agreement, the Colombian government believes that these companies can actively support the development plans of 170 municipalities through programs like Works for Taxes.

As part of this program, companies are exempt from paying taxes and instead undertake significant projects within the country. The meeting brought together renowned companies such as Huawei, China Harbor, BCCY, Zijin Mining, Power China, and Sylvania, with a particular focus on exploring potential contributions in sectors such as connectivity, infrastructure, and energy transition. Companies like Huawei and Power China were specifically acknowledged for their expertise in enhancing connectivity and energy solutions in the country. Also, specialized technology and mining companies like Zijin Mining expressed their willingness to participate in infrastructure projects and the development of strategic mineral resources in Colombia.
