Ecuador started vaccination against the virus for children between 5 and 11 years of age, with Pfizer-BioNTech and Sinovac. The Ministry of Health informed that children between 6 and 11 years old (11 months and 29 days) will receive the (Chinese) Sinovac vaccine with two doses separated by an interval of 28 days; whereas the 5-year-old population will receive the vaccine of the American-German duo Pfizer-BioNTech, enabling children to return to school safely.

In Colombia, the Ministry of Health may initiate the vaccination of minors between 6 and 11 years of age —especially those belonging to vulnerable populations— with the Coronavac vaccine, developed by the Sinovac laboratory. The National Institute for Drug and Food Surveillance in Colombia, Invima, did not modify the authorization for emergency use of the vaccine, but it did give the Ministry the authority to guide immunization for this population group. Invima made the decision considering that the vaccine has been used in children aged 3 to 17 years in Chile, and 6 to 17 years in China, and informed that "the Chamber considers that the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, based on the analysis of the development of the pandemic and the public health needs, can advise vaccination from 6 years of age, especially in the population at risk".
