The last Asia Pacific Economic Forum (APEC) meeting was held in Thailand on November 16. The forum was founded in 1989 and, since then, has been responsible for promoting economic cooperation in East Asia and the Pacific. More recently, a number of Latin American countries have joined, including Chile, Mexico, and Peru. APEC's relevance at international level is mainly due to its economic, commercial, and demographic dimensions. The total number of APEC countries accounts for approximately 40% of the world's population (2.9 billion people) and more than 60% of the world's gross domestic product (GDP).

The session addressed issues related to global economic uncertainty and, among other points, Chinese President Xi Jinping reiterated China's commitment to the region's development. Chilean President Gabriel Boric also attended the meeting, in which he acknowledged that 70% of Chile's trade exchange takes place with APEC member countries. Boric also highlighted Chile's economic performance, in an effort to convey an image of reliability.
