According to a report by Reuters, the top energy regulators from Chile and the People's Republic of China met on Monday, March 31, to discuss bilateral cooperation on energy storage, renewable energy, and electricity.

Representing Chile was the Minister of Energy, Diego Pardow, while Wang Hongzhi, head of China’s National Energy Administration, attended on behalf of the People's Republic of China. During the meeting, the Chinese official expressed his country’s interest in supporting companies from both nations to strengthen bilateral energy cooperation.

Minister Pardow stated that Chile aims to learn from China’s experience in energy security and clean energy, in order to develop more effective national policies and attract greater investment from Chinese companies.

It is worth noting that Chile is one of the world’s largest suppliers of copper and lithium—both critical minerals for the energy transition. However, in February of this year and during other periods in 2024, the country has faced transmission line failures and power outages.
