Data recently published by the China Chamber of Commerce indicate that, in 2021, the Asian country imported 7.03 million metric tons of fruit, among which grapes and cherries from Chile stood out. The China Chamber of Commerce is responsible for formulating strategies, guidelines, and policies for the development of domestic and foreign trade and international economic cooperation, on the Import and Export of Foodstuffs, Homegrown Products, and Animal By-Products. Its data indicate that in 2021, China imported 7.03 million metric tons of fruit.

While COVD-19 impacted world trade, Chile was one of the few countries that managed to maintain its economy and this is due to the cherry and grape exports it made to the People's Republic of China. Indeed, in 2021 Chile exported some US$180 million of cherries and grapes to China.
