Chile has strongly resumed its exports of white meat to China, sending more than 379 tons following the market's reopening in October. This trade had been suspended for 18 months due to an avian influenza outbreak that affected the country since December 2022. The reactivation of these exports once again positions Chile as one of the main suppliers of white meat to the Chinese market, recovering the volumes prior to the health crisis.

The Director of the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG), José Guajardo Reyes, together with the Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Chile, Li Meng, and Daniela Acuña, Deputy Director of ODEPA, oversaw the first shipment from the El Paico plant of the Ariztía company. This milestone marks the resumption of shipments from various plants across the country. Guajardo highlighted the diplomatic and commercial efforts to regain the trust of the Chinese market.

Counselor Li Meng valued the event as an important step for both countries, emphasizing that this progress accelerates the process of opening China to Chilean products. Meanwhile, the president of Ariztía, Heriberto Urzúa, celebrated the reopening, highlighting the importance of China as the largest global market and expressing gratitude for the support of Chilean and Chinese authorities in achieving this commercial reactivation.

Before the market closure at the end of 2022, China was the third most important destination for Chilean poultry exports, with a value of more than 107 million dollars. Between January 2022 and March 2023, more than 34,000 tons of poultry products were exported to China, including by-products and cut meat. With the reopening, Chile aims to regain its presence in this key market, following the significant drop in shipments due to the health crisis.
