Chinese shipping line Cosco has established a new shipping route between Tianjin, China, and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This route, which was recently inaugurated, will be operated by a fleet of twelve Cosco vessels, each with the capacity to carry up to 14,000 standard containers. The main objective of this route is to significantly reduce cargo delivery time from 54 to 40 days, representing a substantial improvement in shipping efficiency between the two countries.

The route is designed to offer weekly departures from the major port of Tianjin, located about 170 kilometers from Beijing, to several destinations in Brazil, including Rio de Janeiro, Santos, Itapoá and Navegantes. This will allow a steady flow of goods between China and Brazil, facilitating bilateral trade.

The goods transported on this route include a variety of key products for both economies. From Brazil, products such as soybeans, iron ore, coffee beans, cocoa, sugar and beef will be shipped to China. In turn, Chinese exports to South America will include basic necessities, chemicals, vehicles and their parts, steel and furniture.

The establishment of this new maritime route represents an important step in strengthening trade ties between China and South America.

In addition to reducing delivery times, it is also expected to increase cold-chain container cargo capacity, which will especially benefit the transportation of food and perishable goods.

In summary, this new maritime route between Tianjin and Rio de Janeiro represents a significant improvement in trade connectivity between China and Brazil, with the potential to boost trade and economic development in both regions.
