New Agreement Boosts Biofertilizer Imports Between Brazil and China

Fundación Andrés Bello

On Monday, November 4, 2024, Brazilian Minister of Integration and Regional Development, Waldez Góes, joined Chinese officials to sign a protocol between Companhia Docas de Santana and the Administrative Commission of Zhuhai's Economic and Technological Development Zone.

This agreement establishes a direct maritime route linking the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area with Santana's Port, reducing transportation time by 14 days. The port is positioned as a strategic hub for trade between Brazil and China, beginning with the import of biofertilizers.

The agreement aims to enhance regional development by facilitating the import of biofertilizers to Amazonas, and sets the stage for expanding agricultural exports from Brazil to China. The Mayor of Santana, Bala Rocha, emphasized the job and income opportunities the partnership will create, highlighting the mutual benefits of trade between the two nations, including the export of soybeans from Brazil to China.

Additionally, the Federal Rural University of the Amazon will play a key role in local biofertilizer production through a collaboration with the Chinese company Sino-Lac.
