Hector Arce, A pro-government congressman denounced a Chinese company for a millionaire bribe to officials of the Bolivian national road entity. Héctor Arce, a member of parliament of the ruling Movement Towards Socialism (MAS) denounced before the Bolivian Attorney General's Office, bribes to favor the awarding of millionaire road contracts.
The bribes to Bolivian officials amounted to US$2.6 million, and, among those convicted, were officials of the Bolivian Highway Authority (ABC) and the prominent leader of the Movement Towards Socialism (MAS) Henri Nina. In February 2022, the ABC awarded the Chinese company Harbour Engineering Company (Chec) a road measuring over 25 kilometers that would link Sucre and Yamparaez (Department of Chuquisaca). The total cost of this road is 456.8 million bolivianos (US$ 65.6 million) and it was financed by the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF), the Bolivian State Treasury, and the local government. Nine ABC officials and an executive of the Chinese firm were arrested following their complaint to the Public Prosecutor's Office.
