The Chinese electric car company Chery has landed in Argentina and will use lithium from the Province of Jujuy for its batteries. The company has announced that it will produce 20 vehicle models, including electric (BEV), hybrid (HEV), and internal combustion (IEC). It also stated that Argentina will be the production center for electric cars in the region, with a two-stage investment over a 7-year period. During the first 2 years it is expected to produce 50,000 units and create 4,000 jobs, and, between 2026 and 2030, production will reach 100,000 units and 6,000 jobs.

Chery's investment plan includes the production of electric drive systems, machinery and components, the establishment of research and development (R&D) centers, a spare parts center to supply the region and a network of dealerships throughout the country. The company also announced the incorporation of 46% integration of auto parts produced in Argentina. This will have a positive impact on the entire electromobility supply chain, in line with the national government's policies to promote greater integration of domestic components in the automotive industry. Sales of hybrid and electric vehicles in Argentina reached 7,848 units patented in 2022, representing an increase of 33% compared to the previous year.
