Nucleoeléctrica is an Argentinean electricity generating company that operates the Embalse and Atucha I and II nuclear power plants. On February 1, the company signed an agreement to develop a project with the China National Nuclear Cooperation (CNNC), which will include the construction of a nuclear plant of the fourth nuclear power plant in Argentina. The CNNC is a state-owned company founded in 1955 in Beijing and is in charge of supervising all of China's civil and military affairs.

The agreement was signed online and was attended by authorities from both companies, the governor of Buenos Aires, Axel Kicillof, the Chinese ambassador to Argentina, Zou Xiaoli, and the Argentine ambassador to China, Sabino Vaca Narvaja. The purpose of the online meeting was to coordinate the start of the construction of the nuclear power plant. The project has an investment of more than 8,000 million dollars and the construction of the plant will have a gross capacity of 1,200 MWe and an initial useful life of 60 years. The plant will be located in Lima, in the province of Buenos Aires, about 100 km from the city. According to what was discussed at the meeting, construction is expected to begin at the end of this year and will require the creation of more than 7,000 jobs and an approximate integration of 40% of national suppliers.
