The National Government of Argentina has launched a railway modernization plan that includes the purchase of three diesel-electric locomotives from the Chinese company CRRC International CO LTD, with an initial payment of $2 million. These units will be assigned to the San Martín line, which currently operates under an emergency schedule due to a shortage of rolling stock. Additionally, Trenes Argentinos signed a $130 million agreement with CRRC SIFANG to acquire essential spare parts for the Roca, Sarmiento, and Mitre lines, whose fleet is 75% behind on scheduled maintenance.

The 2024 investment plan allocates $6.5 billion for domestically produced materials, $9 billion for imported spare parts, and advances for the purchase of additional locomotives, as well as $5 billion for repairs carried out by third parties. The plan also includes the acquisition of 150 diesel cars to renew the urban fleet and the repair of 24 locomotives on the San Martín line. These measures aim to ensure the sustainability and efficiency of railway transportation.

The comprehensive strategy involves the modernization of workshops in Victoria (Mitre line) and Tolosa (Roca line), including the installation of new equipment such as overhead cranes and vertical lathes. Upgrades are also planned for the workshops in Villa Luro (Sarmiento line) and Tapiales (Belgrano Sur line). This ambitious program underscores the Government's commitment to revitalizing the railway system, strengthening infrastructure, and improving service quality at a national level.
