The Governor of Catamarca, Raúl Jalil, along with representatives from Power China, took a key step in the execution of a renewable energy project for the province. During a meeting held at the Government House, the proposal for the construction of a 200 MW solar park was officially presented, with the presence of Vice Governor Rubén Dusso and executives from Shanghai Electric Power Construction Company. The meeting reaffirmed the commitment established between both parties in August 2024.

The project is part of a bilateral agreement signed in 2023 during an official mission to China, which outlined the creation of four solar parks with a total capacity of 600 MW, effectively doubling the energy currently distributed in Catamarca. The parks, named “Catamarca Solar” (250 MW), “Las Carretas” (150 MW), “Los Caserones” (100 MW), and “Tres Quebradas” (100 MW), were designed to be sustainable and government-owned, with financing managed by the provincial administration.

During the presentation, Power China highlighted the strategic advantages of the region due to its high solar radiation levels, while Vice Governor Dusso emphasized the project’s benefits in terms of job creation and economic development.

The first park, “Catamarca Solar”, began construction in 2024 with an initial capacity of 200 MW, expected to be operational by 2026. This project positions Catamarca as a key player in the energy transition, aligning with the global push towards renewable energy sources.
