The China National Pharmaceutical Group Corporation, better known as Sinopharm, has announced that it will be building six new hospitals in Guyana. This is part of the government's plans for the development of nationwide healthcare coverage. Guyana's Minister of National Health, Frank Anthony, announced that the design stage has already started and construction will soon begin on Guyanese soil. The hospitals will be located in Anna Regina, Region 2; De Kinderen, Region Three; Diamond and Enmore, Region Four; Bath, Region Five; and Skeldon, Region Six. The value of this tender is estimated to be close to €137 million.
This project represents the construction of new health service facilities throughout 5 of the 10 regions that make up the Latin American country. Along with the construction of these hospitals, the signed tender also includes the upgrading of 4 of the main telediagnosis centers in the country in order to grant them hospital status. Finally, Guyana's health minister acknowledged that China's support has been of great importance for the development of healthcare in Guyana.
